Happy Friday everyone!
Does anyone remember their very first cigar?
Mine was a Te-Amo. All I remember about it was that it was a gift box from our neighbor to my dad. I was about 10 years old. I didn't smoke it until I was about 12-13 but that gives you an indication on how dry and awful it was. I think I even inhaled some.
Now, the first Good cigar I had was a Fuente Hemmingway. Some buddys and I went to New Mexico for Spring break and we decided to buy a box of cigars. 5 guys and 20 cigars. Of course it was excellent. I don't remember too much about it other than we were sitting under the stars in the middle of the desert. And Cyotes. Lots of Cyotes.

I was probably 15 or 16 when I had my first cigar. Once my friends and I were able to drive we did a lot of camping. There were a couple of us that could by tobacco products because we looked old enough or the local discount liquor store just didn't care. On one of these camping trips a couple pouches of Backwoods Sweet Cigars were passed around. After that, they were kind of a staple on our camping trips. We all thought they would be better because they were moist and not like the dreaded Swisher Sweet or Black 'N Milds.
ReplyDeleteWell up until I hooked up with you all, I didn't know too much about cigars. But I do remember my first handmade cigar that I liked, and it was the Royal Jamaica Gold robusto. It was mild and easy to smoke. Very enjoyable.
It was kind of fun to look back on my cigar evolution. Nice question Matt.
Take care,
Joe
Matt--your Dad didn't want the stogie?
ReplyDeleteJoe--nothing wrong with any cigar when you are a kid camping with your buddies. Which reminds me, we should put you in charge of remembering all the cool night sky stuff, in hopes that all of can get together for at least one camp out this year.
I stole my first cigar out of a car my Dad was helping a neighbor work on when we lived in
Capetown Village (the first house I remember living in). I was in 3rd or 4th grade. I have no idea what it was, but it was out of a tin--lodged under the back seat of the car, likely long forgotten by the neighbor. Back then it was freaking awesome.
The first good smoke I vividly recall was a Excalibur Dark Knight II years ago. Picked it up at Town & Country Tobacco before heading to the Chili Festival with my good buddy Jeffro--which, now that I look back, is kind of the start of my professional smoking career.
Thanks for the question, Matt. Good thoughts.

No, dad was more of a pipe and cigarette smoker. Smoked cigarettes from 11 until about 5 years ago. Then quit, then started back up again about 6 months ago, then quit the day before his surgery.
