AJ Fernandez has seen his star rise for some time now.  For those of you familiar with his works like the Sol Cubano Cuban Cabinet and the Indian Tobac 10^th Anniversary you know he like Nicaraguan tobacco and likes the spice.  AJ blended this Diesel Unholy Cocktail no differently.    

Appearance: Rustic is the word that comes to mind.  Even the band looks like a piece of tin left out in the elements.  Not that it is a bad thing, on the contrary, it makes it look retro or cool without trying too hard.  It is VERY oily.     9/10

Construction: Very few veins and no soft spots.  Some of the finishing touches don’t seem to be “topped off” but that could lend to the rustic look I was talking about earlier.      8/10

Burn:   There were a few touch-ups needed but nothing to get you worried.    9/10

Aroma: This smells like a new belt or shoe with lots of leather.  There is some chocolate coming through but it is very feint.        10/10

Draw: Draw was solid.        9/10

Flavor: More leather, some earthy notes and spice.  GREAT with coffee.           10/10

Availability: You can only buy these at Cigar.com, Cigarinternational.com and Cigarbid.com.  I would like these to be present at a local shop but that is not my call.  However, I got a box of 30 for just over $70.00 so it is hard to beat the value of that.  8/10

Personal Overall Experience:  This is a very good cigar.  This probably has the strongest aroma and flavor that I have ever had in a cigar. It is not overpowering, just always present.  The Diesel Unholy Cocktail is pretty one dimensional though.  I like these in the morning with coffee or with Espresso later in the day.  Great value.  28/30.

Meeting Rocky Patel the other week was out of this world. It is astounding to think about how much he has done so much in a short amount of time. On top of that, Rocky is a huge proponent of Cigar Smokers rights. I am and will continue to be a Rocky Patel fan. Granted, not all of his blends hit their marks, but the majority of them sit right with me. Let’s see how the 1961 did.

Appearance: I like the way this looks. There are some veins, but nothing to be worried about. It seems to be a well made cigar with a somewhat rounded torpedo tip. The foot looks like there is tons of tobacco packed inside. What I really like about the looks of this is the bold label. Red and black are my favorite colors and with the tobacco leaf showing and the roots it is right up my ally. Very cool. 10/10

Construction: There seem to be some spongy spots on the cigar. It might cause some burn issues later but we will see. Otherwise, nothing out of the ordinary. 8/10

Burn: There were a couple that needed some minor touch ups. Nothing major but they need to be pointed out. Somewhat of a flaky white ash but it did hold for a good inch or so. 8/10

Aroma: That’s a spicy smoke. You can smell the black pepper as it waifs away from the foot. Some leather and dirt. 9/10

Draw: Easy. Almost loose but good enough to be enjoyable. 8/10

Flavor: Again, there were lots of pepper notes and more leather. This is a manly smoke. 9/10

Availability: Very good. Just about every local shop has them and plenty online. Alcorns has them on the higher end of the spectrum. I bought these at the Rocky Patel night so I got a decent discount. 10/10

Personal Overall Experience: With the amount of pepper involved, this is on the fuller side of things but certainly not overpowering. Somewhat complex with changing strengths throughout. Like I said above, this is a manly cigar and I had a great time enjoying it. This is worth a box purchase. 28/30.
